I have GarageBand '11, running on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. The Apple loops have lots of greyed-out loops that need downloading. I click to activate one, it tells me I must download the loop now or later. I click Now, it goes to Software Update which tells me there is nothing left to download because I am completely up to date. I restart GarageBand, and still the loops are missing.

When trying to install the full set of Apple Loops and Software Instruments, I got the infamous "run Software Update but nothing ever downloads" problem. After doing a lot of looking on these boards and elsewhere, I decided to uninstall GarageBand '11 and reinstall. Uninstalling GarageBand '11 is a pain too; here's what I did:
I then reinstalled GarageBand from the second install disk that came with my new computer, fired up GarageBand, and downloaded the recommended update. Finally, I opened up a new Loops project; in the Loops Browser, selected one of the missing loops; got the "run Software Update now or later" dialog, and said "Later"; quit GarageBand. Finally, I opened Software Update, and lo and behold! the near-mythical GarageBand Loops and SW Instruments update was there, all 1.2 GB of it!
After over 2 years of hunting these loops, attempting to uninstall but missing many files, and even repurchasing garageband from the app store (a wasted 15 bucks), all to no avail, dagon's solution worked for me. Red letter day. Thank you for doing what the people I actually paid (twice!) for this software would not do.
I can confirm that the method also worked for me without having to use install discs. Erased the app following dagon's instructions, installed it again, chose grayed out loops and selected download later and then used the App Store software updates to get the missing items. Worked like a charm, thanks for posting those instructions.
I'm running the newest version GB 6.0.5 (from ITunes) on an older IMac that I've updated with Mountain Lion and have had the same problem as others on this chain. I tried Dagon's method of deleting all GB items from the various folders, reinstalling GB, clicking update missing loops later, but the loops didn't appear after quitting GB and opening the Software Update window. Rather than download GB 6.0.5 again from ITunes like others have described I made a copy of my GB on an external harddrive and then reinstalled it as per Dagon's directions, but after selecting a missing loop and clicking install later and then reopening Software Update window, there were no updates. Any ideas?
Followed your steps as I have had on my mac in the past. The version it downloads is old (6.0.5) and will not install as it is 32bit.My Mac is a 2013 model running Catalina 10.15.7Any ideas?
dang it, we only have older macs but the one i record on has the latest version, the one my hubby mixes and masters it on is older and has can only run older version, i just went to load the song into the old mac for mixing and oh dear, it wont load the file as it is recorded on a newer version of garageband. rethink required. all his presets for plugins etc are on the old mac. Both macs struggle with the files but was tryng to avoid paying for a new mac :{ didnt even think of that when i did an update a while back.
I did not read through the comments to see if someone offered this solution but the workaround on an older Mac is to sign into another Apple ID where the program was previously downloaded, download the older version, then log out. I logged into my Apple ID account on my old Mac laptop, downloaded Garage Band, then logged back out and logged my kid back in. Worked like a charm.
A new feature included with GarageBand '09 and later is the ability to download pre-recorded music lessons from GarageBand's Lesson Store for guitar and piano. There are two types of lesson available in the Lesson Store: Basic Lessons, which are a free download, and Artist Lessons, which a user must purchase. The first Basic Lessons for both guitar and piano are included with GarageBand. In GarageBand 10, many sounds (aka patches, which Apple refers to as 'audio units') which are listed within the sound library are dimmed and unusable until the user pays an additional fee which allows the utilization of those sounds, bundled with the guitar and piano lessons. Attempting to click on and select the dimmed audio units to apply to the track causes promotional prompts to appear, requiring the user to log on with their Apple ID and furnish credit card information before knowing the price of the bundle.
The Sound Library was added in November 2017 with the 2.3.1 update and lets the user download additional free instruments, drummers and loops released as Sound Packs that are added to the app over time.
A new Sound Library was added in November 2017 which allows users to download additional free instruments and loops released as part of Sound Packs that are added to the app over time. A new Beat Sequencer for creating drum beats was also added in this update.
Garageband is a digital audio workstation developed by Apple for macOS, iPad, and iOS. Currently, there is not a Windows version of Garageband. In order to use Garageband on a Windows PC, you will need to install macOS Big Sur on a virtual machine. Then you can download and run Garageband and other Mac apps through the virtual machine. Be aware that installing macOS on a virtual machine is a little more complicated than installing other operating systems. This wikiHow teaches you how to install Garageband on a virtual machine.

As the name suggests, this online voice changing app will convert a female voice to a male voice and vice-versa. All that you have to do after launching it is to record or load a clip and then choose a pitch. The available pitch types include mountain troll, chipmunk, lower, extremely lower, higher pitch, and so on. After that, you can preview your sound and download it to a WAV file.
Ive used garageband on my ipad for years before being able to afford a Windows. The crossover was simple all of the same functionalities with a few more bells and whistles (minus touch screen capabilities) so the learning process from mobile to desktop was quick and easily picked up while giving me more creating power. This DAW has to be one of the easiest but most effective music making progs. avail. and i grew to like the connection between the tablet and desktop giving the ability to transfer projects right from tablet GB to Windows version GB with no issues, and i later in life found the LOGIC app offers a mixing and more app that remotely works with desktop GB which made my add ins and mixing visible!!! from my tablet!!! as i worked!!!. Thumbs up on this software here which was an excellent gateway, stepping stone, lead off intro into LOGIC PRO X which is the same software but a more professional looking layout. So in return GB a great tool to have, even on my tablet which is my go to on the fly and actually has landed me several local and nationally known clients to work with due to its flexability and capabilities, Go hard at your craft you guys!!! im closer and closer to living out my dreams because of DAWS such as GB and LOGIC PRO. thanks Microsoft you guys rock
The UI is slightly more complicated than Soundtrap but is clear and easy to get to grips with. It allows you to view multi-track recordings, create loops, sample, and more. There are over 250,000 samples built-in while there are thousands of instrument presets to experiment with. All your creations will be stored online but you can download or publish them as you need.
You want to download Garageband for Windows? Dont get confused by online rip-offs as there is no Windows version! Luckily you can run the original Mac version also on Windows and there are pretty good Garageband alternatives for PC as well.
These days I stumbled over a nasty fake page that promises to offer a download for Garageband for Windows as a ported version. The professional design of this website really struck me and I am sure quite some people stepped into that trap already. When you want to download Garageband for PC there you will get nothing but instead create ad-income for the website owner who forces you to do online surveys.
While you can find working VMware images with MAC OS X quite easily, we advise you not to use them. Instead we recommend you to create your own virtual machine which is not too difficult. Here is a good guide which runs you through the process and provides a download which enables VMware to run MAC OS X.
LMMS (download) stands for Linux MultiMedia Studio, although it has a working Windows version since quite a while. LMMS is a free open source sound generator, synthesizer, beat/baseline editor and MIDI control system. When you first install it you might be disappointed from its visual appearance which is quite the opposite of stylish Garageband.
With just $60 Reaper (download free trial) comes at a much cheaper price than FL Studio and has a simplified and highly customizable user-interface. It requires less system resources and comes with many great features and a good recording functionality. 2ff7e9595c
